… Gombe Governor assures of journalists’ safety, security

As the world marks the international day to end impunity for crimes against journalists, today 2nd November, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has reiterated his administration’s resolve in promoting a safe and enabling environment for journalists to perform their professional duties in the State.

Governor Yahaya who expressed solidarity with jounalists in the State and the country as a whole, noted that as watchdogs of the society, press men play a pivotal role in protecting and promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law, hence they too must be protected against all forms of crimes.

He said that people must see intimidation, harassments, attacks and violence against journalists and media workers as direct attacks against the society.

The Governor described Gombe as one of the safest States for journalists to operate, assuring that his government will sustain and improve on their safety in the exercise of their professional calling.

He charged jounalists to always uphold the ethics of fairness, objectivity, truthfulness and patriotism while carrying out their duties.
