Gov. Matawalle has requested for Federal Government special intervention to resettle displaced communities and the repentant bandits that surrendered their arms and embraced peace.

The Governor made the request, Monday, during a meeting with the Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Engineer Mustapha Maihaja, which held at the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Gov. Matawalle said that special intervention from the Federal Government to resettle the displaced communities can be in the form of provision of agricultural inputs, food items, medication, shelter and animal feeds which Zamfara State Government alone cannot shoulder, considering the magnitude of the destruction of lives and properties.

He pointed out that security challenges have caused monumental damages to the State for many years. The need for Federal Government’s special intervention was to assist citizens affected by the crisis in the State.

Gov. Matawalle informed the Director General that since his assumption in office as Governor, he initiated the Peace Reconciliation Strategy that made the warring parties to accept dialogue as the best way to end the long crisis and that the security situation is returning to normal, but the greatest burden on the government now is the creating of an enabling environment for economic transformation of those who accepted to lay down their arms, a situation which needs the urgent assistance from the Federal Government to resuscitate their trading activities and resettle the displaced communities.

The Governor also thanked the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the assistance it has been rendering to the victims of the crisis.

Responding during the meeting, the Director General of NEMA, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja assured the Governor of the Agency’s readiness to provide special intervention to the State in order to alleviate the sufferings of the affected victims.

He also informed the Governor that on the 13th July, 2019 his Agency delivered 50 trucks of fertilizer, 2112 of 20 kg of Maize,2,312 of 5kg of Millet, 2832 of 5kg of Guinea Corn, 3072 goats and large number of herbicide and seedlings which were distributed among the affected communities in the State.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, Permanent Secretary Office of the Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe and NEMA Director General, Mustapha Maihaja.
