COVID-19: Bayelsa Governor tests negative

By John Adenekan

The officials and people of Bayelsa can now heave a sigh of relief as the state governor, Douye Diri tests negative to the fast spreading pandemic, Coronavirus otherwise called COVID-19.

The governor was tested for the virus at about noon on Wednesday 25th March, 2020 by specialists from the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Benin. The result which came out a short while ago has now confirmed the governor is free from the pandemic.

There have been concerns that some state governors and top government officials may have been exposed to the virus due to their recent contacts with persons who have been confirmed to have contracted the virus during a series of meetings in Abuja last week.

Recall that Governors Mandate reported yesterday that the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi has asked his exposed colleagues to self isolate and go for the test so as to ascertain their status.

It is expected that the result of the test of the Bayelsa governor would now put the anxiety to rest and encourage others to come forward and take measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
