…insists ”no 2nd term for Obaseki”
…Warning: “Obaseki is not Ambode of Lagos”
By Desmond Ogudu
Nigerians should await interesting times in Edo State governorship election, come 2020. Reason is that there seems to be no hope or hard times ahead on the ambition of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, as far as the latest move by his political godfather, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is concerned.
It’s no more news that both leaders have been engaged in running battle over the Governor’s second term plan, which his predecessor is reportedly working to stop.
A very reliable source in the camp of the ruling APC national chairman, revealed to our source that the former Governor had made up his mind to stop Obaseki, whom he foisted on the Edo people in 2016.
We gathered that he has endorsed billionaire businessman, Captain Hosa Wells Okunbor, for the November 2020 governorship election in Edo State, thereby sealing the hope of Obaseki to return for a second term.
On Saturday, 31st of August, 2019, the source claimed that Oshiomhole led Okunbor on a night visit to party elders and stakeholders in Edo State, seeking their blessing for his choice for Obaseki’s successor.
At the meeting, which happened before both attended the birthday celebration of a party leader, Chief Edebiri, in Benin City alongside APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, regaled the source, Oshiomhole explained his reasons for rejecting Obaseki for another term outside what is being fed the public by the media.
However, it was alleged by an interested party that, both Oshiomhole and Okunbor are confidants, although the Okunbo was known to be an ally of PDP stalwarts and alleged financier of the former ruling party. The source claimed that Okunbor once launched a $750 million farm in Edo State, which Oshiomhole, who was the Governor then, hosted with fanfare.
Meanwhile, a source within Edo State Government House told our source that nobody can stop Obaseki’s second term move, irrespective of the moves allegedly being made by Oshiomhole.
The source who did not want to be named, noted that Edo people, not Oshiomhole or any individual, would decide Obaseki’s fate in the next election, adding that the heat was turned on the Governor ”because he is spending Edo money on Edo people instead of sharing it to some little gods. Let them know that Obaseki is not Ambode of Lagos”.
